One gift that the Community Foundation can give charitable people is simplicity: the Community Foundation can put all their giving in one place, keeping it neat, easy, and together. Sure makes tax time easier! The Behymers have recently established the Wayne and Jo Behymer Charitable Fund with the Community Foundation of Central Missouri. By doing so they are able to deposit their donations into their fund, and then use that one fund balance to make grants to all of their other various charitable interests–church, service organizations, schools, and the like. From the convenience of their own home computer, all they do is log into the Behymer Fund, enter the information about how much they would like to donate to which organizations, when to make the gifts, and click “Submit.” The Community Foundation takes care of making sure they are requesting a proper grant (gift), writing the grant check, enclosing a letter stating that the gift comes from the Wayne and Jo Behymer Charitable Fund, and mailing it to its intended recipient. Easy! The Behymer Fund, as described, is a donor-advised-fund. The donor makes a gift to the Community Foundation by establishing a fund, and then continues to offer advice (which is most always approved) for the distribution of the fund assets. Community Foundation Executive Director John Baker would be happy to help you learn more about a charitable fund that may serve your own family’s charitable interests.
